photo of the day – dimitry and maurice sendak

The day has finally arrived: October 16, 2009. After four long years in the making, Spike Jonze and Dave Eggers‘ adaptive take on Maurice Sendak’s landmark children’s book Where The Wild Things Are has officially hit theaters nationwide (you foreigners will have to fend for your own release information … like most Americans I just can’t be bothered with what’s happening off my oceanic doorstep). My ever-roving friend Dimitry Elyashkevich just so happened to find his way to the big premiere party for the film in New York City a few days ago, and here he is posting up with Mr. Sendak himself on that very eve. So unleash your inner child beast this weekend, ditch reality for a few hours, and go check out the flick (and if you’re anywhere near the vicinity of New York City be sure to stop by MoMA for the final days of its exhibition Spike Jonze: The First 80 Years).
