Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, beat it to beat it. How oddly fitting is it that just one day after Michael Jackson’s autopsied and filleted remains are buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Park* that the “Got To Be There” art show is coming down as well. To re-celebrate the occasion, the 2Headed Horse gallery will be hosting a “Got To Be There Again” closing reception on Saturday, September 5th, starting at 7:00pm. Free drinks. Bands. Art. What more could you ask for in this so called life? So if you missed the opening, be sure to get on up and dance all over this closing.
Incidentally, through all of the assorted Michael Jackson-related posts I’ve had to deal with this past summer, I’ve since come to the realization that after nine years of having to tap out J-A-C-K-A-S-S on the keyboard my fingers are now so accustomed to the ingrained rhythm that every time I go to type out Michael Jackson’s name I inevitably pound out “Michael Jackass” first. Every. Damn. Time. In a typically crazed American court of law, I’m almost positive that I could sue for some frivolous form of occupational impairment, right? I mean, I can’t work anywhere else ever again—especially if it’s for some jackass named Jackson—and my lifelong dream of writing a sweeping epic about the life and times of that haggard looking dude on the 20 dollar bill is all but doomed from the moment I just thought of it now. Anyway, sounds like a bonafide repetitive stress disorder/injury if you ask me! Woohoo!
* Jackassworld recommends the following book by Evelyn Waugh, The Loved One. If you’re allergic to words, do not be alarmed. In fact, be happy! In 1965, famed American satirist Terry Southern took the story and turned it into a screenplay for the black comedy** of the same name.
** Not to be confused with The Cosby Show.
