Here is a picture of me pushing product at this year’s July 4th, 2009, Hootenanny festival in Orange County. My cousin Roger Alan Wade was playing the concert for the second year in a row and me, Pontius, and Handsome Jack went out to see him. Why am I in a vendor’s booth, you ask? Well, soon after arriving, my cousin’s girlfriend Tristen told me that Rog’ had given all his CDs and T-shirts away for free at a previous night’s show in Mentone, California. Rog’ said his voice wasn’t up to par and he wanted to make sure people got their money’s worth. This is a typical type move for Rog’. He’s got a heart bigger than his brain when it comes to financial matters—actually, when it comes to a lot of matters. Heh-heh…

After hearing he gave away a few hundred bucks the night before and realizing that no one was selling anything for him on July 4th either, I went into action. Hootenanny top dog Bill Hardie was sweet enough to set me up in one of his booths so I could hawk Rog’s merch after his show. I got off to kind of a rocky start to be totally honest. When the first guy bought a shirt for $10 (pretty damn good deal, by the way), I handed him a shirt and a twenty dollar bill in return.

“No, no, no,” he said laughing and giving back the twenty. “The shirt cost ten. I gave you a ten and you gave me twenty back.”

“Ohhhhhh…,” I said, embarrassed by my ignorance. I promptly took back the twenty and handed him a TEN in return. He just stood there shaking his head.

“Okay, thats wrong, too. Look, you are just excited, calm down. The shirt cost ten. I gave you ten. You handed me a shirt and we are even.”

Whew, I guess financial matters ain’t my strong point either. At least Rog’ was only giving them away for free. I was giving them away with a $20 bonus on top. Oh well. The show was great, we had a ball, and Roger and I have retired from handling his merchandising. Luckily sweet Tristen has stepped in and business is now going well since the two idiots are sticking to what they know best—which ain’t much.

Sincerely,

Knoxville
