The final adventure in SXSW actually started at the beginning. On our first night, we were introduced to the velvety smooth vocals (and charm) of county music singer Dale Watson. Now, to be honest, I didn’t know about Dale Watson’s music until Knoxville gave me his phone number. Dale was polite as could be when I called him and he invited us to see him play that night at a place called the Broke ‘N’ Spoke.
Upon arriving, I instantly emailed Knoxville, “You didn’t tell us he was such a heartthrob??!!!”
He responded, “I figured he would.”
And let me tell you, he sure did. I can even go so far as to say that my girlfriends and I are a little obsessed—and by a little, I mean we got all the albums and T-shirts and talk about him way more than necessary.
To make all of this even better, Dale invited us to another local Austin treat, “Chicken Shit Bingo”, at Ginny’s Little Longhorn, where they serve Lone Star Beer (the best beer in the whole wide world) and Ginny Dogs (the best dogs in the land).
This one goes out to Dale’s lovely wife, Chelsea. Bless her heart.
