photo of the day – roger alan wade

Here is an email my cousin Roger Alan Wade sent me about my older sister Lynne (Lynnerd). She used to sing with Rog many years ago, but gave it up to raise a family. During her time performing with Rog, her big mouth, bad temper, and refusal to take any shit from anybody got him in a lot of fights. She is barely 5′ 2″ and a grandmother now, but as you can see from Rog’s email not much has changed. Heh heh… Anyway, the below pic was taken back in the mid ’80s when Lynne was singing with Rog’. That’s obviously her on the left and Rog is smack dab in the middle. About the photo, Rog says he “looks like an Alabama farmer at a Chippewa circle jerk.” Ha ha ha, and I thought the flannel was sweet!! Wahoo!!

Sincerely,

Lynne’s little brother P.J. (Knoxville)

I play down at Robbie’s pool hall one night a year and last night was the night. They were hangin’ from the rafters and your sweet sister got up to sing a song with me. About that time some nut-scratcher from Texas trotted up on-stage and told me and Lynnerd to take a bow, his friends were gonna sing. I politely declined and explained to him that me and Lynnerd didn’t give a shit about his friends or their singing. He was pissed, to say the least, and wanted to know who the hell I thought I was. Lynnerd was just taking it all in and smiling sweetly. The cowboy reached for the microphone and Lynnerd looked at me cross-eyed. Then she let him have it. She told him “get your ass off this stage.” The dumbass just kept monkeying with the microphone and mumbled something right stupid. Lynnerd had had enough, she started snappin’ her fingers and talking out the side of her mouth and bitchin’ and told his ass, “I said, get your ass off this stage.” Ol’ Tex backed off, at least he had that much sense. As he was getting his ass off the stage, me and Lynnerd kicked into “Don’t Cry For the Cowboy Angel” in the key of “C”. —Roger
