Not long after the acquisition of Big Brother skateboard magazine in 1997 by LFP, Inc., many people expected the rag to become exponentially worse (or better) in its more “adult-themed” content. Understandably so: World’s greatest pornographer buys skateboard mag renowned for printing bare boobies and penises—a publishing marriage made in heaven, right? No … not exactly. You see, as the world’s greatest pornographer, Larry Flynt has to be doubly certain his ass is legally covered at all times, because more than a couple right-wing watchdog groups are rabidly gung ho to find an illegal chink in his attorney-clad defenses. So, obviously, he couldn’t publish a magazine rife with bare boobies and penises that is clearly targeted at a youth demographic. We were, however, exposed to a whole new world at LFP and we did try to work around the new restrictions the best we could—for one, the annoying but necessary introduction of “Mr. Genital Blocker.” Here, in issue #28 (December 1997), Dave Carnie put his investigative penis to work in unraveling the mystery of the penis pump. Because if these things really worked wouldn’t they be featured front and center in Bed Bath & Beyond stores and not just classified ads in the back of Hustler Magazine?
