photo of the day – mark zupan’s gold medal

It doesn’t take a brain trust to figure out the reason for all the guest stars on Nitro Circus. Take this last trip to Utah for instance. Within the space of two days, Jolene Van Vugt was hobbled with a sprained ankle (not that it really prevented her from trying to participate in any other action that happened to be going down), Travis Pastrana had done something to his abdominal region (on top of everything else he’d sustained over the past five or so months), and Street Bike Tommy had already fulfilled his human meteorite potential. So by the final Utahn days the main cast was running on fumes (don’t forget that Andy Bell finished out the season with a broken wrist). This is where the special bodies—I mean, guests come in handy, and for Utah they’d seen fit to stack the bench with Mark Zupan.

Mark, as I’m sure you will remember (and if you don’t you should add Murderball to your Netflix list posthaste), is one of the American quad-rugby players that took home the gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games. Have you ever seen a gold medal before? I hadn’t. So it was pretty damn cool to find out that Mark had brought his medal along with him to Utah. What made it even cooler, though, is the bag he carries it in. Congratulations once again, Mark (not only on the medal but for surviving your appearance on Nitro Circus)!
