This Sunday, March 1st, you will see grown adults mount and ride big wheels downhill at a high speed on the latest episode of Nitro Circus, where the stunty escapades return to the backwoods of Marypastranaland.
An arrested development race similar to this was once staged on a curvaceous back street in San Francisco in late 2000, but our dream location was always Lombard St., the famously crooked byway of the city by the bay. We had, at one point, imagined an elaborate pinball structure that surely would’ve rivaled the Great Rube Goldberg Farce of 2002, but it turned out to be harder to pull a permit for this street than pretty much any other in the western hemisphere. Apparently, the Lombard residents are very unforgiving when it comes to the entertainment industry exploiting the novelty of their street, and numerous rules and regulations exist for those that even attempt to set a filming foot upon it. Can you believe the nerve of these people bogarting such primal fun real estate? Where’s Mr. Rogers when you need him…
