wildboyz unclothed – part 3

In Part 3 of Wildboyz Unclothed, Steve-O pretty much does just that. Well, only after a tromp through the Costa Rican rainforest to cook a steak at an active and bubbling volcanic vent—with unbleeped cusswords! But once the crew arrives at the sloth sanctuary, that’s where you really get a chance to see some wildery behind-the-scenes crap. I think we tried to prep a script-like thing for the first couple trips to South Africa and Alaska, but this was vastly ignored in the field. Wisely so, because it provided Nick Hutchings and his MTV UK crew with some prime footage of Chris Pontius and Steve-O whipping up a freestyled delivery on-site and in the thick of it (good thing those sloths weren’t going anywhere soon). The word “genius” gets tossed around a might bit to easy these days, but in this case its usage is more than warranted—it’s demanded.

Despite appearances—not to mention all the other naughty crap we’d committed to print 43 issues prior—this may just have been the most publicly controversial issue of Big Brother ever. Touted as the “Kids” issue, the bulk of the magazine was dedicated to pint-size prodigies that were up and coming skateboarders at the time—kids like Ryan Sheckler, for instance, who is shown here on the cover at the popping young age of eight-years-old. From the innocent, pale, pink beanpole we first met to the tainted, pale, pink puff pastry we know today, here’s a celebratory reel of hardly, occasionally, and genuinely dangerous moments with Ehren McGhehey throughout the years of jackass. Why? Because it’s his birthday today. Or, as the Smut Peddlers would sing, “Fuck you, that’s why!” Happy birthday, Ehren!

Once the magazine went monthly, a consequence of its sale to Larry Flynt Publications, Inc. in 1997, we weren’t always able to devote as much time and creative attention to our covers as we would’ve liked. However, we still found little ways to amuse ourselves, like with this particular skateboard-centric cover of Lincoln Ueda on issue #33 of Big Brother. See if you can figure out what the fuck we did here for a momentary afternoon giggle in our new corporate digs.

who the hell are you?

This particular member spotlight won’t be a surprise to some (RandyRos went and posted it in the discussion boards for fear of my technical “we the jerks at jackassworld reserve the right to edit your responses” clause), but I’ll be corked if the photos still aren’t stunners on the first, fourth, or even fifty-first glance. Hell, we even once made a “photo of the day” out of a busty billboard she made during the darker days of jackassworld to help promote our cause for the greater good of mankind. Because without humor there is no life, and where there is no life there is no death. Or something like that. (more…)

Following a good night’s sleep, Chris Pontius steps into the limelight to shine like no other nature host on the animal planet. Nick Hutchings and his MTV UK crew tag along as Pontius traipses and trash talks his way through a Costa Rican zoo, revealing not only more Wildboyz behind-the-scenes magic but scenes of his behind, too. Steve-O chimes in with periodic deadpan dread from time-to-time—even when he’s busy tangling with a cadre of oversexed white-faced capuchins—and everyone’s favorite venomous snake idiot David Weathers gets jiggy with the highly dangerous Fer-de-lance.

I know, the title sounds ragingly redundant, but Wildboyz Unclothed is a behind-the-scenes special that was shot by Nick Hutchings in Costa Rica for the UK branch of MTV in early 2004. Over the next four days we’ll be rolling this out in four neat and tidy parcels to get you (and us) through the holiday break. In Part 1, you’ll briefly see an extremely tired Chris Pontius before Steve-O takes over and segues into one of his most troubling, nerve-wracking and perplexing times on Wildboyz: a bungee jump. Yes, that’s right, a bungee jump. Don’t worry, none of us understood the adverse psychological mechanics behind this one either. (more…)

Now before you go saying, “Yeah, Wee Man!” you should be made aware that this is NOT the LP you all know and love. Instead, it’s the other professional skateboarding dwarf, Pancho Moler. Yeah, that’s right, there’s TWO of them. I know, statistically it sounds unbelievable—I think we were even somewhat surprised when the East Coast existence of Pancho was brought to our attention—but seeing is believing and you just saw it so you have no choice but to believe it. Part 9 of the jackassworld road trip, in which our mini-ramp shralpers—Wee Man, Chris Pontius, Danger Ehren, Preston Lacy, Dave England, Mike Kassak, Loomis Fall, JxPx Blackmon, Scott Manning, Dimitry Elyashkevich, Mike G., Rick Kosick, and Sean Cliver—tour some San Jose backyards during the day before taking up the good ol’ alcoholic torch for the night. black metal thanksgiving - part 3

There was a third BMTG that appeared in the pages of Big Brother, you can read it here. But after six years of Black Metal Thanksgiving I had failed to find any more interesting ways to write about the subject, so instead I created a book review aimed at people like Dave England who refused to give up their belief in Santa Claus (read “God”).

At the last BMTG, however, something interesting occurred. (more…)
