gary, spring is here
I always know when Spring has arrived because all the mice and rats in our large, luscious green backyard start having babies. And I know they’re having babies because Gary brings the babies in the house and eats their faces off. Today is the first day of Spring and Gary has kicked off the season with a bang: two mice and one rat in the last three days. Right on time.

He really went big on the first day: a rat. He usually just kills meeces, but this thing was a fucking whopper. It’s like half his size. At least it was before he ate half its face off.

Sometimes he brings them in when they’re not quite dead yet. That’s always awesome because Gary is still very excited about his catch and causes quite a hullabaloo when he comes in the door. He makes this noise he never makes unless he has a kill in his mouth. It’s like his war cry, “MMMRREEAAAOOZXZUSUAAWWWAAA!!!!!” Then he takes it to one of his two favorite sacrificial altars in our house. The first is on the wood floor in a corner of my office (top and bottom pics), the other is on the bath mat next to the tub in the bathroom.

I know I said “two” mice, but I’m not sure if this was a mouse? By the time he was done with it, it was just a pile of guts. But I think that’s a tail and a little paw sticking out right there?
